| This thread is for everyone affected by bad weather to check in, and let everyone know they are safe and sound. There was alot of action on the east and west coasts today. If you were in the path of the storms, give a report of what happened and how the recovery is coming along. | |

| Rudy should probably make this a "sticky". The wild weather season is getting an early start this year. | |

I think that most of us are in the Midwest and Florida with a few in Europe and on the east coast.

Yeah, my grandma and aunt live in Phoenix, haven't heard from them so for the moment I'm assuming no news is good news. They'll be getting a call later tonight, though, to check up on them. Phoenix wasn't quite so bad, but apparently they got nailed by some wind and there's downed trees everywhere and roof damage in some locations. And right now there's a rescue happening because apparently several people are trapped on a sandbar in a flooded river.

| Probably massive power outages with trees down. The phone lines could be down too which could be why you haven't heard from them. | |

Possibly. They have cell phones, but I don't know how reception might be.

| If the cell phone towers have been damaged, coverage could be spotty. Their infrastructure out there isn't built to deal with the kind of weather foolishness we have to deal with in the eastern half of the country so the authorities probably have a ton of outages to deal with. | |

| I know how they feel. A gas stove is a wonderful thing. I live in an apartment, and we can't have gas stoves. Fire hazard. Anyone know any GOOD exorcism rituals. Need to send Old Man Winter packing. Thanks be you and yours are okay, and not completely buried. | |

Update:
Winter Storm Warning:
Issued at: 12:46 PM EST 2/8/10, expires at: 9:00 PM EST 2/8/10
Winter storm warning in effect from midnight tonight to 1 pm est Wednesday, The NWS in Indianapolis has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow, which is in effect from midnight tonight to 1 pm est Wednesday. The winter storm watch is no longer in effect. Accumulations, snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are expected. Timing, snow is expected to begin late tonight and continue through Tuesday night. Impacts, roads will become slick for the Tuesday morning commute. Strong winds will create blowing and drifting snow Tuesday night and Wednesday. Precautionary/preparedness actions, A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
I looked at a national radar map. This sucker is just moving into southwestern Kentucky and the "tail' of it stretches southwest, passing northwest of Houston, Texas and reaching almost to the Rio Grande. It looks like it will miss Dike but it's taking dead aim on Indiana. I'm hoping that Skywise gets home before it gets REALLY bad and I'm praying that conditions are bad enough tomorrow that my stubborn Taurus will stay home!

| Oddly enough when I have dreams about flying, I usually end up uncontrollably skyrocketing end end up too high to see where I was trying to go, and getting lost. Or ending up in space and seeing something like this when I look back at what was supposed to have been the earth: I do enjoy the hover-dreams, though, where I'm close to the ground but taking these long floating strides.... | |
