Tropical Storm Alex is verging one becoming a Category 1 Class Hurricane. If Alex continues on his current path, he should make landfall at the Texas/Mexican border. There is still a danger He could change course, and right into the oil spill still plaguing The Gulf Coast. Hope he has VERY poor aim. It could get a whole lot messier down there.

*weighs each hand*

oil spill on one hand, possibly, temporarily taking out boarder control with the other.....
im sure this is sadistic to say, but i would rather it hit the oil spill....

A hurricane is the last thing those poor people on the Gulf need right now.

Very true. Going to make Hurricane Katrina look like a gentle spring shower.

Wouldn't be too surprised if we do not see another Katrina this year. The land based weather has been a nonstop ride since Spring arrived. Severe weather has been reported every week for months now. To quote Sgt. Esterhause from "Hill Street Blues", "Be careful out there!".

really though, the only thing that made katrina as famous as it was, was it hitting new orleans head on. had it hit anywhere else, i really dont think anyone woulda cared cept for the people it hit. not to mention the way new orleans is all set up, it was a disaster waiting to happen anyway. gods knows what theyll do if a rare tsunami ever hits them. itll prolly wipe new orleans off the map....

One thing I'm glad about is that we are where everyone evacuates to.
So, unless we have another 2004, should be safe from hurricanes.

But the wind and rain from just normal thunderstorms will make up for it I'm sure.

Before the levees broke, it was pretty much a case of getting the electricity restored, the water made drinkable again and general clean up operations. After the levees broke, all Hell broke lose. That was when the game plan the city had in place was found to be inadequate. All order was lost, and The Law had to be on their toes. The Feds response time was just pathetic. Katrina is evidence that all cities, towns, etc need to battle plan, or too many things WILL go wrong. When you are told to get the hell out of Dodge, DO IT!!!

No kidding! Cities can be rebuilt but lives lost can't be replaced.
