| Or: What the hell does a rabbit have to do with a dead jew on a stick???
Answer: nothing
(One of the original bunny stories)
Eostre is one of the Northern European Goddesses of spring and transformation. She was much beloved, tho she was considered somewhat ditsy, slept too much, and was often late for her duties. ( A late spring in Northern Europe, imagine that! [/ end sarcasm ] The rainbow was one of her symbols.
One year Eostre overslept by a month. Animal babies were being born, plants were struggling up out of the frozen earth, and the snow remained on the ground and the temps were freezing.
When Eostre awoke, she immediately summoned her rainbow bridge and walked it down to earth, where she set about melting the snow and bringing sunshine and warmth. Upon melting one patch of snow, she found a baby bird, fallen from it's nest and dying of the cold.
Eostre was not a life-bringer, She had no command over death, but she was a goddess of transformation, so she did what she could to help the baby bird survive by turning it into something that could survive the cold temperatures. She transformed the tiny bird into a snowshoe hare.
The little bird/rabbit, now very confused, hopped away, leaving rainbow colored eggs in it's wake.

k, ditch the PC terms eh! its called cross breeding! I wish to take this opportunity to apologize for my bad manners. I used a PC term. I forgot myself. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN! What I should have said was is Frankensteining. Making something that isn't quite what Mother Nature had in mind. The rabbit is a bona fide mutant. "Bock, bock, bock, bock, bock ock!" | |
